Dawn’s sculpture is stylised figurative and mainly in bronze. A lot of her work is based on families and relationships. A mother herself, much of her inspiration is drawn from her own experiences, relationships and feelings. ‘There is a myriad of feelings and emotions depicting relationships that I wish to explore, both dependent and inter-dependant. ‘I also produce works to commission and am aiming to get more this year’. She is currently working on a series of ‘horse and child’ pieces. Initially Dawn works on a small scale which can be scaled up to produce large pieces for outside. |

She understands how expertly capture the characteristics of a theme in delicate, light tones, reflecting her positive attitude and view of life. Her strongest interest is in taking the classical traditions and reinterpreting the form, and so creating images that go beyond mere representation and bring into the sculpture a sense of other qualities such as power, movement or humour, using different materials to achieve this personal interpretation. To achieve this she often sculpts using plaster or very liquid clay mixed with straw. These techniques were used by Dame Elizabeth Fink and many other sculptors during this century. |

Michael Hipkins was born in 1942 and received his Art education at Blackpool College. He then went to Paris to study painting at the Academie de la Grande Chaumiere and Academie Julienne and etching and engraving at S.W. Hayter’s Atelier 17. Primarily absorbed by the human figure, he is not so concerned with naturalistic interpretation but rather with truth to materials used. In his stone carving he tries to bring out the quality of the stone, showing different degrees of process from the raw stone to a highly polished finish. The figures emerge from the stone creating unity in form, spirit and movement. |

Vivien Mallock's treatment of bronze, is a shining example of what can be achieved by a combination of an open mind, acute observation and mastery of technique. This amalgam adds the qualities of movement, subtlety of texture and a tactile use of patination, which transforms the medium into something more than mere three-dimensional art. Vivien's large works in Normandy, Portsmouth and Whitehall are examples of what she can achieve when given the opportunity to fill a large public space, capturing the spirit and poignancy of war and peace. |

"In recent years sculptor Guðrún Nielsen has been fascinated with all things Japanese, which ties in with her enduring interest in clear and concise forms and proportions and qualities such as lightness and harmony, in short everything that contributes to the optimum balance of elements within the work at hand as well as the world without. These are qualities associated with the Japanese attitude to mass and space, as seen in their oldest buildings as well as their recent architecture. A fundamental aspect of this attitude is certain spareness with regard to materials, which is also an attitude that Guðrún subscribes to."

The man who rediscovered the Aeolian Harp as an art form. The Ancients used to use wooden boxes with harp strings which were vibrated by the wind but it was not until Geoffrey applied his technical skill combined with his artists flair that something so pleasing on the eye and ear has been created from modern composites. Despite being in such demand for what he can make he still somehow finds time to create new and exciting forms. |

Jilly Sutton trained at Exeter College of Art. She carves ‘in the round’ large pieces of tree, the challenge being the plastic manipulation of the wood. Her mostly figurative work has a haunting beauty, with an over-riding feeling of peace. Her double sized head of the Poet Laureate is in the National Portrait Gallery. Much of her work is cast in bronze or jesmonite. |

Her love of all animals is supremely exemplified in all of her sculpture. Some catching that moment, whether the poise before the pounce of a big cat or the sudden turn of a swerving hare. She now spends much of her time in South Africa working on her beloved animals. |

He is one of those rare artists whose skill is entirely natural and untaught and whose artistry has been appreciated by such as Sir Cecil Beaton, his first client, The Duke of Westminster who commissioned a 5 metre bronze of his ancestor Sir Robert Grosvenor and so the list goes on. He is particularly well known for his singular ability to capture that spontaneous moment of movement or repose whether of people, birds or animals. |
